Starting the season away to Earlston who were promoted as runners-up to Colts in the C division last year was never going to be an easy task for the young Colts team.
But this did not deter them from the task at hand, as straight from kick off Colts pushed forward and a cross from Lough out wide fizzed across the Earlston box.
The bright start immediately lifted the confidence of all the debutants as Chirnside had Earlston largely locked in their own half for the opening 15minutes.
Earlston grew into the game though, forcing back to back corners that troubled Chirnside.
The opening goal came from a free kick by Daniel Pattenden to the back post which was met with a powerful Dan Romaines header.
Straight from kick-off Colts had to be alert at the back with Lugget making a good save and Ryan Wood clearing off the line.
In the second half Earlston pressed for an equaliser and Lugget pushed a long range effort over the cross bar and Wood again made two last ditch tackles.
At the other end Jordan Wood hit the post before the Colts scored their second when Lackenby broke clear through the middle and lashed the ball into the net from 25 yards out.
Unfortunately he injured himself in doing so and had to be subbed.
