Stevie Gibbard took charge of the team as Coldstream reached the semi-final of the League Cup thanks to a double from French new boy Arnaud Gauthier on his first start.

Gibbard was in charge despite having announced his resignation the night before, however it later emerged that he had made a mistake and apologised to the squad.

Right midfielder Gauthier added to the goal he scored on his debut last week by finding the net twice, and striker Jack Hay also scored on his first appearance since October.

Coldstream’s opener was initiated by left-back Michael Allan, who linked up with Luke Strangeways and John Crawford. When the ball was fed into Hay in the box, he squared for Gauthier. The Frenchman made no mistake.

It was 1-0 at half time, and Hay doubled the lead when a short back-pass gave Crawford the opportunity to challenge the goalkeeper. The ball broke kindly for Hay, who side-footed into an empty net.

When Josh Hebdon was sent off for a second bookable offence, Coldstream had to readjust, with French left-back Axel Cassard coming on.

Strollers pulled a goal back, and pressed for the equaliser, but then made a mistake.

A poor kick from the Strollers keeper gave Gauthier the chance to cut in from the right to unleash a shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top corner.
