Airdrie Res 5-3 Berwick Rangers Res

Berwick Reserves made a flying start to Monday night’s SPFL Reserve League game at the Excelsior Stadium.

Josh Morris netted immediately after kick-off when he cashed in on a poor Airdrie pass.

In the sixth minute, Berwick scored again when Owen Ronald completed a move launched by Dean Carse back near their own bye-line.

Rangers’ keeper Kieran Beveridge made a series of saves before Lewis Coult got a touch of a corner ball to open the home account.

Dario Robertson kicked a Carse shot off the line before the Diamonds scored twice within a minute.

Coult equalised with a great shot and then sent a ball over from the right which hit the far post before Murray Lowdon headed in the rebound.

Three minutes from the break it was all square again when Carse cheekily stole the ball off Airdrie and finished with panache.

Berwick were dealt a hammer blow five minutes into the second half following an unforced error by Beveridge. Ewan Saunderson was penalised for tripping and Coult completed his hat-trick from the spot.

The visitors kept at it, but typically their shots were off target from too far out.

In the 72nd minute Liam Watt collected a careless pass from Ben Miller and punished it with his side’s fifth after picking his spot.

Berwick Res: Beveridge, Saunderson, Brady, Hay (Gill 46), Fairbairn, Elliot (Scanlon 62), C Scott, Miller, Ronald (G Tulloch 70), Morris, Carse.
