Civil Service Strollers 3
There is no disgrace in getting beat by a better team and on Saturday the Strollers were the better team.
Duns got off to the perfect start. With only three minutes played their top scorer Jordan Lauder made the most of an early corner shooting home his 25th goal of the season and third in the last two games to put the Dingers ahead.
This stung the Strollers into action and during their next attack full back Leigh Walker brought down their attacker right on the edge of the box seeing yellow from referee Whyte. Strollers were unable to benefit from the dead ball award shooting wide.
Then on 20 minutes the visitors had a very good passage of play down the left side and of the park and Kyle Boggie slotted a ball across the box for Ian Ballanytne to score and level the game at 1-1.
Ten minutes later the visitors were in front.
A ball in from the right was miskicked by Smith and the ball hit the underside of the bar leaving Boggie the simplest of headers from about half a foot.
The second half started with Duns trying to get on the offensive but the visitors were always dangerous on the break.
The Dingers were a real threat at set pieces with the height in their team and forced four corners in quick succession but the Strollers defence managed to force the ball clear on each occasion.
Seven minutes into the second half Strollers put the game to bed by scoring their third.
Jack Downie brought the ball down in the box and slipped it through for Bogie to score his second of the game.
Duns keeper Smith made a good save after the defence failed to deal with a through ball while at the other end the Strollers’ keeper was rarely threatened.
Duns will have better days, without doubt, but in mitigation this was their seventh game in 17 days and the lads are tiring and injuries are mounting. However, the players are carrying on which is to their credit.
Duns: Smith, J. Ainslie, Walker, K. Ainslie, Windram (Robertson), Bullen, Wemyss, Strangeways, Lauder, Pattenden, Rutherford. Unused subs - Robinson, Lee.
