Chirnside defeated the Division A leaders Jed Legion on Saturday to win a place in the semi-finals of this year’s Beveridge Cup.

The home side put Jed under pressure from the start and were soon rewarded when a break up field by Romaines saw him collect a good lay off from Lackenby and he smashed in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.

This seemed to spur Jed on and after a succession of corners they grabbed an equaliser when some poor marking saw the Jed player rise at the near post to head home.

It was now Chirnside’s time to recover and they did so by going back into the lead. A good counter attack by Condy saw him play the ball to midfield partner Jess who skinned the onrushing centre half and tucked the ball past the keeper.

The home side were now well on top and nearly increased their lead in fortuitous fashion when a cross from the left was caught by the wind and swung back towards goal just missing the right hand post.

Chirnside soon added a third when Condy swung a corner in only to see the keeper palm it into his own goal.

It was now all Chirnside and they got their fourth just before half time when a free kick from Morrison saw Lackenby out muscle his marker to glance a header into the goal.

Jed pulled a goal back early in the second half and they continued to apply pressure.

They pulled another goal back when a lucky break of the ball landed at the feet of the striker to neatly tuck away and very nearly equalised when a cross was deflected and looped over Todd in the Chirnside goal only to bounce back off the bar.

Chirnside eventually secured the tie with a fifth goal when Young sent Shennan through and he slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.
