Big hopes as Little and staff extend contracts
Berwick Rangers boss Ian Little and assistant Kevin Haynes have signed extended contracts at Shielfield for another year – while half a dozen more players have agreed terms for the new season.
Manager Little said he and his coaching staff wanted to see the club going in the right direction above all else.
He and Haynes, previously contracted until the end of the 2020-21 season, have agreed conditions until the end of 2021-22, with their contracts renegotiated to include “admirable wage drops” amid the financial situation at the club, following the football lay-off caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
Darren Smith and Mark Beveridge will also continue to form part of Little’s backroom team for the 2020/21 term and beyond, said the club website.
Little said it had been very difficult when he first came to manage the club, having a relatively short timescale in which to turn things around.
But everyone off the pitch had been working really hard and he felt more confident now about the challenge, with the quality of the coaching staff he had behind him.
People wanted to see good results on the field, he added, but they would also see “progression, commitment and competitiveness” when they watched Berwick Rangers.
The Wee Gers finished in 12th spot after 24 of their 30 league matches – with six wins, six draws and 12 defeats – after the Lowland League board opted this week to curtail the season with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, Euan Smith, Kevin Waugh, Ali Forster, Dan Purves, Sam Daniel and Jack Wright have all agreed terms for 2020-21, joining already-signed Grant Rose and Calum Smith. The news was announced on the brand-new club podcast, Let It BRFC.
