In the process, they brought their goal tally up to 16 in the last two games.

This was new Hawick manager Graeme Chadwick’s first match in charge and his team got off to a flying start with a wind assisted goal from Danny May in the first minute. It was the cue for Berwick to turn the screw and eight minutes later, they were level. Sam Todd played the ball to Josh Morris inside the box and he hit it into the top corner of the net.

Hawick goalkeeper Matt Liddle was beaten again by Morris who planted the ball behind him after chesting down a high diagonal pass from Greig Smith. However, Liddle went on to make four excellent saves to keep the score at 2-1 at the break. Dean Carse, whose pace was a source of torment for the home side, stretched Rangers’ lead early in the second half.

On the hour, taking a Jamie Doris pass with his back to the goal, Morris flicked the ball over Hawick heads but, as he rounded defenders to collect it, was brought down by Greg Young. Regular spot kick man Todd handed the ball to Morris for the chance of a second hat-trick in successive games and he duly obliged.

The 21 year old, whose scoring feats should be of interest to Rangers’ manager Ian Little, made way for the returning Michael Robinson five minutes later but the scoring didn’t stop, Todd making it 5-1. With ten minutes left, Allan Ramsay lofted a 40 yard ball over a static Hawick back four. Ross Brady raced forward to connect with it, the outside of his right foot sending it goalbound.

The Reserves continued to attack but Liddle, who edged Morris for man of the match, prevented them scoring again in a one-sided second half with late point blank saves from Robinson and Smith.

Berwick Res: Sandison, Fairbairn, Ramsay, Brady, O’Brien, Morris (Robinson 65), Smith, Carse (Rennie 73), Finlayson, Todd, Doris.
