Berwick and Dunfermline fought out a 2-2 draw in a pre-season friendly at Shielfield on Monday, the visitors leaving with a share of the spoils after
Rangers’ skipper Jonny Fairbairn deflected the ball into his own net for an equaliser in the 87th minute.
Berwick opted for six trialists in their starting line-up and included another four on the bench.
Dunfermline had five trialists on show and one more amongst their substitutes.
In the first half Berwick had the best of the early exchanges with two close range headers and an outstretched effort blocked by the trialiist Dunfermline keeper.
The visitors responded with efforts from their trialist No 9 and Faisseil El Bahktoui before Darren Lavery smashed the ball high into the net to give Berwick the lead after 35 minutes following good work by a trialist.
The lead lasted less than three minutes before Dunfermline equalised through Bahktoui with a first time shot from a cutback into the box.
But Rangers’ who used nine substitutes during the second half, retook the lead after 56 minutes when a trialist played a long cross into the box from the right and Michael McKenna powered a header in from close range.
They had their trialist goalkeeper to thank for a fine point-black save with less than ten minutes remaining and for a fingertip save at full stretch from a shot at distance as the Pars went in search of a late equaliser which eventually came with a deflected shot off Fairbairn with just three minutes remaining.
