The concession of two late goals was compounded by the red card shown to defender Andy McLean three minutes from time for two bookable offences.

Buoyed by a 5-0 home win over champions Alloa Athletic, Berwick could not have asked for a better start. It took just 20 seconds for Kevin McDonald’s strike to open the scoring.

Elgin equalised in the 23rd minute when Mark Durnan converted Paul Millar’s cross.
