Berwick-based Kieran Ainslie made his competitive home debut for Rangers against Arbroath, having played in the previous two away games at Stirling Albion and Kilmarnock.
“I thought my chances of playing for Berwick had gone,” he said, “but I was pleased to get the call and be given the chance.
“Hopefully I can now be some sort of role-model or inspiration to other local youngsters who might be coming through the ranks.”
Ainslie said the players were ‘gutted’ to have seen two points slip from their grasp on Saturday.
“But we didn’t play well, “ he said. “Perhaps it was the after-effects of the Killie game, but we know we can play better than that.
“We have a good squad though. It’s still early days and I think the lads are confident they can continue to make progress, pick up a few points and make a strong push for promotion, which is our aim this season.”
