Eyemouth High School track events

WITH the grass playing fields still out of commission, the artificial pitch was again the venue for this year's track events in the S1-S3 Athletics Championships at Eyemouth High School.

All athletes were well used to the surface having completed their training, heats, hurdles, etc as part of their curricular PE programme.

So with the tennis nets and goals moved and hundreds of cones and markers carefully measured and laid out, the all weather surface was ready for the finals. With the field events all taking place in class time, the track finals would decide each years' athletic champion.

Michael Moran signalled his intent when he powered his way down the finishing straight to snatch the S3 400m and ultimately the championship from Charlie Woodhouse, who had previously achieved top three positions in all field events.

Laura Polisciukaite picked up wins in the 400m and 800m to clinch the S3 girls championship in the last race by one point from Amy Laidlaw who won the 100m and 200m.

Sean Williamson dominated the S2 championship winning six out of the eight events and equalling the high jump record set by Aaron Middlemiss in 1987. Nathan Craig was again runner up and was unfortunately absent on the afternoon of the track events or things would have been very close indeed.

Rachel Lauder's determined running saw her win all track events, allowing her to pull clear of Zoe Martin to clinch the S2 girls' title.

In the S1 boys championship Jamie White finally edged out Lewis Smith into the runners up spot, but it was only after the final race that the championship was decided when Jamie won the 800m with Lewis in second place despite having won the previous three races.
