However the minor places were decided towards the closing stages when a three car shunt allowed the defending champion Stuart Shevill Jnr through into second.
Graeme Anderson was shunted into the turnstile bend in a heat and rolled but Shevill Jnr’s car was the worse for wear when he was shunted into the pit bend by Grief.
The stock rod Scottish Championship was dominated by the World Champion Michael Bethune who led the race from start to finish after drawing pole position.
The race for the formula II National Points championship is in full swing and with under 20 meetings remaining there is now only an 85 points difference between George MacMillan Jnr and Chris Burgoyne with the latter claiming the Turner trophy as a result of his final win.
Again over 20 formula II cars at the track including Martin Ford and Brett Constable whilst the local drivers in action were John and Brian Hogg Jnr (Berwick).
Brian wasn’t classified in any of his races but John had a good outing taking his car through to a third place in heat one then sixth in both the second heat and the final. However he was sent spinning in the Grand National and wasn’t classified.
The saloons turned up in their numbers including the defending champion Stuart Shevill Jnr whilst there were 15 drivers who were seeded onto the main grid but those who had not undertaken the necessary number of meetings had to start the race from the back of the grid.
The grid draw paired Kyle Hegg on pole with Barry Russell alongside whilst behind them were Willie Mitchell and Ross Graham, Grief started from row seven but Shevill Jnr was the last car on the grid.
After some hectic action Luke Grief went through to win from Stuart Shevill Jnr and Paul Honeyman.
The stock rod Scottish Championship proved to be a disaster for Trevor Calvin and Cameron Doak with both drivers blowing their engines in practice. Paul Prentice (Selkirk) was the local driver in action and he struggled with a problem and had to retire from the Scottish. He was back for heat one but was involve dein a shunt and had to retire.
This Saturday the formula IIs are back in action with the lower grade drivers having their white/yellow challenge series final to contest and that could well be an interesting race with quite a few drivers in with a chance of a win. Also in action are the 2 litre National saloons, the 1300cc saloons, the 2 litre bangers and the microf2s.
The meeting starts at 6.00pm as usual although if Cowdenbeath FC are at home the start may be slightly delayed.
