Crowe back in ring after five year absence
Chirnside Boxing Club's Daniel Crowe was back in the ring at the weekend, five years after his only previous bout.
Five years ago Daniel Crowe made his ring debut, a close points defeat on the Leith Victoria show. However, a leg break whilst playing football put his boxing career on hold.
Chirnside ABC are pleased to have Daniel back as a registered boxer this season and on Sunday he made his comeback in a Chirnside vest at Gala Boxing Club’s show in the Volunteer Hall where he boxed against home boxer Sean Connelly over 3x2 minute rounds.
The bout was entertaining with Connelly, the shorter of the two, continually looking to box close in to prevent Daniel using his reach. The busier work rate of Connelly earned him a unanimous points win but Daniel should be proud of his efforts.
After the bout, both boxers and their coaches agreed to a rematch on the Chirnside show on May 20, giving something for Daniel to focus on.
Well done to Daniel for a great effort today and well done to everyone at Gala Boxing Club for a great show.
On Friday night, Ben Grant boxed on the Craigmillar ABC show at the Jewel Miners Social Club in Edinburgh against home boxer James-John Bruce over 3x3 minute rounds but unfortunately lost by a split decision. The coaches in Ben’s corner thought that Ben did more than enough to win the contest but it wasn’t to be, the judges seeing things differently.
Ben will now look forward to his next contest which will be next Sunday on the East Lothian ABC show in Haddington where he boxes against Charlie Doig from St Francis ABC in Dundee.
Ben Grant and Michael Gillen put on a great performance at the Kisyth boxing show the previous Saturday. Michael made his debut in an exhibition contest against John Smith from the Four Isles club and will take confidence into his next competitive bout.
Top of the bill was Ben against Andy Tham from the home club and what a great contest it was with both lads working hard and entertaining the large crowd to good boxing, with Ben getting a deserved unanimous decision.
Chirnside’s home boxing show will be held on the night of Friday, May 20, in the old Eyemouth High School and tickets are now on sale priced £10.
