Chirnside Boxing Club Show
Berwickshire's boxing talent was there for all to see at Friday night's Chirnside Amateur Boxing Club Show in Eyemouth.
The show, held in the former Eyemouth High School, proved to be a sell-out, and those lucky enough to get tickets were treated to an action-packed evening.
Clubs represented at the show, along with the home club, were Hawick, Shire (Glasgow), Jonesys (Stirling), Bronx (Tranent), Northumberland Fire and Rescue (Cramlington), Alloa, Cardenden (Kirkcaldy), Duries (Rutherglen), Glendale (Wooler) and Gala.
The award for ‘Best bout’ went to that between Chirnside’s Caitlin Black and Brooke Anderson of the Shire Boxing Club. Although narrowly defeated Caitlin put up a great showing again her opponent who was two years older.
The award for ‘Best home club boxer’ went to young Cameron Walker from Reston who defeated Shire’s Steven McWilliam in what was only his second contest.
The only other home winner of the night was Michael Gillen from Eyemouth who beat Steven Ross of Gala by a first round technical knockout. This was Michael’s competition debut having only ever boxed in an exhibition bout previously.
Chirnside ABC chairman Michael Black was delighted with Friday’s event. He said: “It was a bit of a struggle for Martin Wood and I to match the show probably due to the time of the year but in the end we had around ten clubs bringing boxers from as far as Glasgow and Wooler.
“We are proud of our own boxers’ performances and attitudes in the ring. It has been a quiet season but everyone has remained dedicated to their training and Friday showed what can be achieved.
“Thanks to all the visiting boxers and coaches, the officials from the Eastern District, Tommy Grieve our M/C and Dr Tiemessen. Also thanks to everyone who helped out. A special mention to all our sponsors, their financial support is much appreciated.
Results were: Mack Murdoch (Bronx) beat Allan Perrie (Jonseys), Cameron Walker (Chirnside) beat Steven McWilliam (Shire), Rhys Tait (Hawick) beat Sean Duddy (Shire), Dylan Fail (Northumberland) beat Thomas Douglas (Chirnside), Brooke Anderson (Shire) beat Caitlin Black (Chirnside), Josh Alexander (Jonesys) beat Jack Grant (Chirnside), Bradley Grieve (Cardenden) beat Matthew Walsh (Glendale), Michael Gillen (Chirnside) beat Steven Ross (Gala), Sohaib Mohammed (Duries) beat Ben Grant (Chirnside).
