RUGBY: Berwick won the inaugural Hawick Linden Sevens, beating the host club 36-24 in the final.

Qualification from Pool A was never in doubt, as Lawrence Patton's team saw off Annan, Selkirk and Hawick Harlequins. North Berwick might have proved more difficult opposition in the semi-final, with coach Patton admiring their play in the half of the draw. But they were beaten in style, Berwick scoring 27 without reply.

The final against Hawick Linden was more evenly contested, but Berwick always had the upperhand. They led 19-12 at half time and scored two more tries after the turnaround to seal a 36-24 victory and lift the Life Members Cup.

Patton felt the triumph was perfect preparation for Sunday's Berwick Sevens at Scremerston, and praised the powerful running of his young team.
