Berwick and Duns Rugby Clubs will clash at Scremerston in the final league fixture of the season on Saturday when the home side will be presented with the East League Division 1 championship trophy.
The Blacks go into the game in an almost unassailable position. Dalkeith are the only side capable of toppling them, but Berwick would need to lose and they would need to over-turn a 250-points-plus deficit, which is highly unlikely.
Coach Colin Young says it will be a proud day for everyone at the club.
“The lads have put in a lot of effort throughout the season,” he said, “and once the title is won we can start celebrating.
“Before that we have a job to do. Duns are our closest rivals and we want to beat them and end the season on a winning note.”
Berwick’s promotion to the National Leagues next season will mean a lot more travelling, with one of the fixtures likely to be in Orkney.
“It is a long way up there,” said Young. “I am sure we could fly to Tenerife quicker!
“We will probably have to go the day before and make a weekend of it.
“It will be expensive, but it will also be a great experience for the team.”
