The prestigious trophy will be awarded to the person who, in the opinion of the judges, has contributed the most to the local community in the last year.

Rotary president Eric Bridgewater said: “Duns and district is an active and vibrant community and this is only possible because so many people give generously of their time and their talents to benefit others.

“The Rotary Club believes that it is only right and proper that the efforts of those who give to assist others are recognised in an appropriate way.

“The Citizen of the Year award recognises the efforts of these people and brings this generosity to the public’s attention.”

Previous winners include Stuart Renton, Neil Redpath and the Rev Donald Gaddes. Last year’s winner was Billy O’Brien.

Anyone can nominate and nominations can be emailed to the Berwickshire News ([email protected]), co-sponsors of the award, or made at the Post Office and George Romanes’ shop in Duns.

Please fill in the form with the name of the person you wish to nominate, the reason you feel they deserve the award and then deposit the form in the boxes in the Post Office or Romanes Chemist.

For the first time you can also vote online at www.rotary-duns.org.

Nominations close on Sunday, July 6.

People nominated must live in the Duns Rotary area (Duns, Chirnside, Greenlaw, Swinton, Longformacus, Abbey St Bathans, Preston and Gavinton).

Nominees must have made a significant impact on the wellbeing of the local community.

They may be male or female from any part of the community - voluntary sector or public sector or private individual who has, in their own way, greatly contributed to the lives of their fellow citizens without thought for personal reward.
