Westruther turbine planned

The same planning consultants, AAH Planning, who recently submitted planning applications for 100m turbines at Lamberton and Harelaw, Chirnside, have also submitted one for Westruther.

AAH Planning Consultants’ latest planning application is for a 102 metre high wind turbine on land held at Thorneydykes, near Westruther that would generate enough electricity to supply approximately 407 houses a year.

In their supporting statement for the application they say: “The overall impact of this individual turbine on the character of the Moorfoot Hills Landscape Character Area and rolling farmland can be considered to be ‘moderate adverse’. Although this is a sensitive landscape, it is not protected at either the national or the local level, and there is scope for a turbine of this scale in this location without substantial adverse effects.

“When a balance is struck between overall views, the significance of effect of this individual turbine can be considered to be ‘moderate/major adverse’.
