Duns Summer Festival Committee has issued a plea to the public regarding underage drinking during this year’s festivities.

Festival Committee president Stuart Renton said: “After a meeting with our Police Inspector it has been brought to the attention of the Duns Summer Festival Committee that there is major concern with regard to underage drinking at our events, particularly the Saturday evening celebrations.

“The Police have stated there will be a zero tolerance approach to any underage drinking and Duns Summer Festival Committee support this fully. There will be an increased presence of police on duty for these events. Police Scotland have allowed the Saturday evening to proceed for this year on the strict understanding that if they have any concerns about underage drinking then they will have no alternative than to put a stop to such events.”
