Tribute to an ever-present supporter of local animal rescue charities

VIOLET Mary Turnbull was a great supporter of BARK, having previously been involved with ARK. Many of you will remember her from her days helping Winnie Youngman in the shop at the top of Castlegate.

Our thoughts and wishes go to her family and friends at this sad time, and our gratitude goes out to Violet, whose support for BARK was ever present.

Congratulations to the Amnesiacs team who won the quiz night last week. Over £200 was raised, so a big thank you to all who supported this event.

On April 9 some of the BARK staff and volunteers are doing a 20-mile sponsored walk from Berwick to Coldstream. We would appreciate any sponsorship and forms are available at the BARK Shop, the kennels and RentonSwan.

A dog that walks well on lead is a dream to walk and makes the whole “exercise thing” a pleasant experience. We have some beauties in this week.

Molly is around a year and a half and a smaller sized lurcher. She has very pretty brindle colouring and somehow her head always ends up in your hand for a stroke. Chico is a two-and-a-half- year-old lurcher, tan in colour and very affectionate. Although these dogs have always been kennel dogs they will soon adapt to a comfy sofa.

Cooper is almost three and a black greyhound. He is very gentle and loves his walks. Until recently we believe he was a racer so he has a fair turn of speed, but in very short bursts. All these dogs although needing regular walks do not necessarily need excessively long walks.

Joe is a very attractive white and black border collie. A very bright boy, he will love to learn tricks and would suit a home that wants to train their dog to a higher level. Very people- and dog-friendly, he will make a super pet in an active home.

Bailey is a small to medium brindle and white cross. She has a super nature and is very people- and dog-friendly. She is still under a year old and has previously lived with children. Bronson is a three year-old English Bull Terrier who is good with other dogs and has lived with children.

Our three overlooked dogs this week are Kim who is almost three, Judy who is between 10 and 11 and Jack who is coming up for five. Kim just loves being out on her walks and is becoming very sociable around sociable dogs, although she does not like dogs who rudely run up to her or suddenly appear in her face. She is the perfect dog for someone. Is it you?

Judy is very fit for her age, with a lovely trim figure. She loves her walks but prefers to keep herself to herself. Jack is a typical terrier with the addition that he is not good around other dogs. He needs a home that will keep him away from other dogs and on lead when out and about. However, he loves people and will make a fantastic companion in the right home.

The cats we have in at the moment are very friendly but all of them are over five. This does put some people off but at least you know the personality of the cat. Black cats are Basil, Connie; long haired cats are Oscar and Casper, who must go together, and Miranda, a multicoloured beauty; ginger cats are Amber and Skittles; tabby cat is Mikey; Pippin and Mitzy are a ginger and a tortoiseshell aged 10 and 13 who ideally should stay together. All of these cats have something unique about either their looks and/or their personalities.

Our rabbit shed remains full with rabbits of all shapes, sizes, hair lengths and colours and ranging in age from 6 months to three years. We also have two male guineas who are both attractively marked.
