Thanks for help during gales

SIR, - Through your pages I would like to give thanks to East Lothian Council staff and those working in other public bodies, private companies, organisations and individuals who helped people, including some of our most vulnerable residents during the recent gale and subsequent power cuts in rural communities.

Thanks include those to the staff at the Community Alarm service who contacted clients to check on their welfare, the emergency care and domiciliary care services who delivered hot meals to those who needed them and responded to new requests for help, staff who arranged for replacement frozen meals where stocks were ruined.

Particular thanks go to Liz McLean, the council architect, and others who were out in the gale on Tuesday and subsequent times to attend to the damage at the new Dunbar Primary campus and make it possible for pupils and staff to access the building for the new term.

Also thanks to Scott Kennedy who was the council link to Scottish Power regarding the homes affected by the power cuts.

Dunbar and East Linton Ward,

East Lothian Council.
