Tennis club gets lease for £1

A £1-a-year lease of the tennis courts at Duns Public Park will allow the club to apply for funds to refurbish them.

A 25-year lease of the tennis courts and clubhouse gives Duns Tennis Club the opportunity to apply for grant funding from Lottery Sport Scotland to renew the club house and make improvements to the courts.

Scottish Borders Council’s executive committee has approved a 25-year lease to the club at a rent of £1 per annum “if asked for”.

The courts and club house in Duns are council owned and have been leased to Duns Tennis Club rent free for many years.

However, the club house is in a poor condition and the courts need to be resurfaced. To be eligible for a Lottery Sport Scotland grant the tennis club needs to have a long term lease on the area in Duns Public Park.

The tennis club will be responsible for developing and maintaining the proposed club house, plus health and safety arrangements at the courts.
