The awards will be held in combination with this year's Borders Banquet to be held on Tuesday, November 30 at Wedderburn Castle, near Duns.

The primary purpose of staging two such high profile culinary events is to raise awareness of locally produced and sourced food from the region.

The awards will celebrate the partnership between food producers, growing and rearing local food as well as providers, being the cafes, restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts and delicatessens that prepare, cook and sell our local produce.

Three award categories have been established which are open to all culinary related establishments located within the Scottish Borders.

These are Best Borders Breakfast, Best Borders Lunch and Best Borders Supper - teams enter into one category only.

It will be up to you, the public, to judge the dishes and choose your favourite within each category.

Denise Walton from the Scottish Borders Food Network said: "This is a great opportunity not only to showcase the range of high quality eating establishments in the local area but also the extent of local produce which goes into making these dishes.

"The Scottish Borders has an abundance of sensational locally sourced food products from its stunning landscape and we want to raise public awareness of this."

She added: "We want to encourage anyone who serves food in the borders to find their perfect partner, be it local egg and dairy suppliers, meat, fish or vegetables and create an outstanding dish to bring to the table from October 25 through to November 7 when public voting closes."

Throughout the campaign, Radio Borders and the local press will feature establishments which are taking part, describing the dish they have created along with producers the ingredients have been sourced from and how the public can vote for their favourite.

The winning recipes and producers will find fame too, being featured in a marketing campaign.

All participants will be invited to attend the Borders Banquet on November 30 at Wedderburn Castle.

The nine finalists will get a free ticket and the overall winner of the Taste Awards will be announced and receive the exclusive prize.

Those of you taking part in the judging of the menus will automatically enter a free prize draw to win tickets to the banquet.

It all ties in nicely with the Borders Banquet, a 10-day celebration of the best local food the beautiful Scottish Borders offers.

It's the perfect opportunity for you to experience local food either directly from the producer or in restaurants, hotels and cafes.
