Local artists Pauline Burbidge and Charlie Poulson are opening the doors to their Allanbank Mill Steading for their 18th annual open studio.

From tomorrow (Friday, July 29) until Monday, August 1, visitors will be able to see Pauline and Charlie’s art in their work environment, as well as see pieces from guest exhibitor Jacquie Milham.

Each year Pauline and Charlie transform their studio spaces into exhibition areas, and display artwork around the whole Steading, inside and out. The studio, at Allanbank Mill Steading, Allanton, will be open daily next week from 11am-6pm.

This year’s guest artist, Jacquie Milham, is an architect and will be showing models, designs and visual presentations connected with her practice Architectonic Design Ltd (RIBA Chartered Practice). They specialise in providing clients with creative design solutions, that respond to both their requirements and the possibilities of the site, to create unique and uplifting buildings. Jacquie is based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

Charles continues to make sculpture, large scale drawings and growing sculpture. He currently has a major touring exhibition, called ‘Growing’.

Some of the work will be re-visiting home territory for this year’s Open Studio, between venues, so here is a chance to see where the work was made, and to meet the artist too.

Pauline will show her textile work, and a whole new collection of ‘Stitch Drawings’. New, in-progress ‘Studio Quilts’ can also be seen, inspired by the landscape of Holy Island causeway. This work will be completed to show next year in her big retrospective exhibition, which will start at The Festival of Quilts and tour, during 2012/13.
