The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers in the Borders to donate dog and cat food to its Scottish Borders Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Mellerstain.

Last year the centre cared for 122 animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and many other small animals.

Centre manager Claire Tyczynska said: “Our kennels and catteries are full so we’re going through a lot of food.

“While we do buy in food for the animals, we also rely on donations.

“At the moment we have a particular need for tinned dog and cat food and any help the public can give us will be greatly appreciated. We also have food collection bins available for local businesses that would like to collect food for us.”

Anyone who wishes to donate food can take it to the Scottish Borders Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Mellerstain, Gordon, TD3 6LG. The centre is open daily between 10am and 4pm.
