The Eastern Borders Schools Band (pictured above) gained a deserved Silver Award at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships at its first attempt last Sunday.
The band is made up of pupils from the various schools in the Earlston, Berwickshire High and Eyemouth catchment areas and they competed in the Development Section at the prestigious Perth Concert Hall.
There was a total of 13 bands competing in the section and after having to get up at 5am to make Perth for 8am the band performed exceptionally well especially as it was their first major competition. Some of the pupils went on to perform with the Scottish Borders Youth Band who won first place in the Senior Section and will now go on to represent the Borders and Scotland in Belgium in April.
Brass instructor Graeme Kennedy said: “This was an absolutely fantastic effort from the pupils who were a credit to themselves, families and schools.”
