School sessions to 2019

Schools sessions in the Borders have been set for the next five years and there is little change to the current timetable.

The suggestion of a full week’s break in February has long been mulled over and got little support the last time Scottish Borders Council asked parents and staff about it in 2010. It was up for discussion again as Scottish Borders Council sought views for their 2014-19 session dates, but despite some people asking for it to be reconsidered, councillors at this week’s education committee meeting agreed to drop the proposal.

Reporting to councillors, Colin Easton, SBC’s policy, planning and performance manager said: “On balance, given the fact that this idea was strongly rejected previously and as schools continue to prepare for further implementation of Curriculum for Excellence including the scheduling of assessments and the new examinations as part of the senior phase, some of which may fall during the month of February, it is not felt appropriate to make any significant changes.”
