The Legal Team at Scottish Borders Council has been short-listed as a finalist for the MJ Awards 2011 - Excellence in Legal Services Achievement of the year for the UK.
And they are only legal team in Scotland to be short listed for the prestigious award and one of only seven other councils to make it through to this final stage.
Last week head of legal and democratic services Ian Wilkie, legal and licensing services manager Anne Isles and solicitor Susan Shaw made the team’s final pitch to the judging panel which included Dr Mirza Ahmad, corporate director of governance at the UK’s largest local authority Birmingham City Council.
Their application ‘Unlocking our potential and Delivering Outside the Box’ focuses on the innovative steps they have taken over the last year to deliver better with less in the current economic climate.
Ian Wilkie said: “It speaks volumes for the calibre of staff we have here at Scottish Borders Council. We are up against some very impressive applications from other UK councils, including the Hackney Council Legal Team who are helping to assemble the legal agreements for the London Olympics in 2012. The whole team at SBC is proud of its achievements.”
