Scottish Borders Council has appointed a new Children and Young People’s Champion.
Councillor John Paton-Day has taken on the role previously filled by Mid-Berwickshire Councillor Frances Renton before she was appointed Executive Member for Social Work (Social Care and Health).
Councillor Renton said she was pleased that SBC had chosen Councillor Paton-Day as her successor as he was “extremely enthusiastic and has always spoken passionately about issues affecting young people in the Borders.”
His role will include meeting groups of children and young people throughout the Borders to listen to their views and ideas and ensure that they are heard when it comes to local decision-making.
Councillor Paton-Day will also work closely with other councillors and other relevant forums to promote a better understanding of children and young people’s rights, needs and desires.
Councillor Paton-Daymsaid: “This position is vitally important as it can influence the development of Council services, which in turn can enhance the life choices and opportunities for young Borderers.”
