A successful campaign to recruit retained duty firemen in the east of the Scottish Borders has proved successful.
The March campaign resulted in applicants being recruited for Eyemouth, Duns and Coldstream, Berwickshire Area Forum was told last week.
“We have had staffing problems,” admitted Andrew Girrity, from Scottish Fire and Rescue, “but through the campaign we have addressed some of these problems and we are getting up to where the retained level should be.”
Round two of the recruitment campaign has just closed - on June 1 - and it focused mainly on Eyemouth and Duns, the two stations which still have a vacancy each.
The latest recruitment initiative targeted local employers, asking them to release employees, keen to join the service, so they could serve their local community.
