THE Borders is hosting a number of cycling events in advance of the official Tour of Britain Grand Depart from Peebles on Sunday, September 11.
The Tour is the biggest professional cycle race in the UK and the region has been chosen as the starting point for this year’s race.
One of the events that has been organised to mark the occasion is the Scottish Borders Exhibition ‘Criterium’ cycling race which will be held in Peebles on Saturday, September 10.
The race, jointly organised by Renner Sport and Scottish Borders Council, will involve 45 minutes of circuit riding plus five laps around the High Street and Tweedgreen course.
Competing in a race of this nature requires a mix of good technical skills including the ability to corner rapidly and sharply as well as riding safely alongside a large group on such a short circuit and makes for an excellent spectacle for fans.
One of the most popular riders competing, amongst team mates and competitors, is Graham Briggs who recently sprinted to victory to take the Elite Men’s National Circuit Championships in Beverley
