Baker and decorator of bespoke cakes for any occasion, Tina can turn her hand to any delicious treat.
Whether you’re looking for a centrepiece for a children’s birthday party or gingerbread men for the party bags, afternoon tea with friends, a wedding or christening cake, or just to say thank you to that special person, Tina can deliver.
“My aim is to ensure that my customers are always 100 per cent delighted with their cake or cupcakes,” Tina insists. “I design and make all the cakes as per the customer requirements. I can ensure that your occasion has the sweetest, most delicious cakes you can buy!”
Now living just outside Duns, Tina arrived at the end of May. Having found her feet in the area, she is re-establishing her business, and tempting the people of Berwickshire with her tantalising treats.
“I have just moved up here, but I did this in Hertfordshire for about two years,” Tina explains. “I made cakes for the local bakery and cafes, and I supplied a nearby hotel – I used to make their afternoon cakes for special occasions, like Valentine’s Day.”
Tina’s craft is a labour of love. Indeed, she only used to bake as a hobby, when she could find the time outside her job at London-based IBN, where she worked for many years.
She explains: “I was made redundant from my work for IBN and I thought, ‘I love cooking, I have always loved baking cakes.’
“I usually do too many for my family to eat - my son-in-law was eating one one day and he said ‘You should sell these’! So I decided to give it a go.
“We moved up here at the end of May and the people I have met said to start it up here, as there’s lots of cafes and big country houses and things. So I’ve just started up, my website went live last week.”
It’s not just cakes for occasions that Tina can turn her hand to – with the cupcake movement sweeping the nation, Berwickshire now has its very own slice of the action.
And it’s not only Tina who gets all the fun, as her Country Crumbs business offers you the chance to get your hands doughy too – in the form of cupcake parties and classes.
She says: “Cooking can be great fun for the young – and not so young! So I run cupcake parties.
“For the children’s cupcake parties I’ll go to them. I will attend the party and show the children how to decorate a cupcake and help them decorate their own.
“I provide the cupcakes already baked for the party and all the decorations, packaging and ribbon, plus a recipe card for each child to take home with them. Each child will have a minimum of four cupcakes to decorate and take home, and the party girl or boy will receive a cookery set and four cupcakes.”
But it’s not just for kids – Tina also shares her expertise with adults in her own home-based cupcake classes.
“The cupcake classes can be done as a party, or just as something new and fun to learn,” she explains. “At a cupcake class I teach people how to make them and how to decorate them. It’s a fun way to learn how to make perfect cupcakes – any flavour you like – and how to decorate them.
“A lot of people say ‘I’d never be able to do that’ but they can, it’s quite simple really. You just need someone to show you what to do.” Tina runs her cupcake classes for up to four adults at a time. “It’s good fun!” she insists.
She loves to create wonderful, edible creations – but like everyone else, Tina says there are difficult aspects to her job. “I think the hardest ones are when people ask you to make cakes for a funeral because it’s obviously a sombre occasion, but cakes aren’t really sombre things – they’re usually fun and bright,” she says.
“I have always got it in mind not to be too flamboyant for those times. I have done a few for new-born babies, that’s the sort of occasion I like doing. But whatever the celebration please give me a call and I will be happy to make your celebration that little bit more special.”
