The damp and drizzly weather failed to dampen spirits as Chirnside Civic Week got underway on Sunday.

Due to the rain this year’s Gala Queen Charlotte Craze was crowned under canvas by Susan Swan at a ceremony in Windram Park.

Sunday’s festivities started with the Kirkin’ O’ The Queen in Chirnside Parish Church followed by the traditional toasting.

The ever popular Fancy Dress competition was held at the football pitch before the walking parade made its way through the village to the crowning ceremony in Windram Park, accompanied by the Coldstream Pipe Band. The crowning ceremony was followed by games etc.

Charlotte’s court for her big day comprised consort Andy Kerr, crown-bearer Charlie Stewart, herald Sam Brady and attendants Karina Ciekala and Anna Brown.

They were accompanied by Jonathan Kinsella and Natalia Malich and Samirs Blumtis and Sally-May North.

Fairy Queen was Alesha Muir and her consort was Sebastian Swiatek. They were supported by Lewis-Mark Davidson, Keora Pemble, Aidan Moffat, Naomi Trussler, Ryan Duffy, Mia Flemming, Flora Sidney and Aiden Wood.

Sunday’s events were rounded off with live music from local musician Andrew Valentine and X Factor star Emily Middlemas in the Red Lion.

There is a varied programme during the rest of the week with something for all the family.
