Borderers have been reminded that computer firms will not make unsolicited phone calls or update their PCs after a woman was recently subjected to a phone scam.
A man claiming to be from “Windows”, claimed that the woman’s licence was due for renewal and a payment was required.
She was contacted on two further occasions. On the first the man stated she was due a refund, attempting to engage her in a process which would require her to receive additional money and then transfer some of this money back to them. On the second occasion he said he had installed a program on her computer and she would need to contact a local technician to remove it.
Police Scotland advised residents to treat all calls like this as suspicious and not to give out personal details or transfer money.
