Coldstream’s Michelle Telford goes for short cut to support the NHS

Coldstream woman Michelle Telford challenged her friends to raise £1000 for charity – and if they did, she’d have her hair shaved off.

It took just 48 hours for the target to be reached.

So on Saturday, Michelle had her head shaved by husband Craig and eldest son Jack, while her friend Mary-Jane filmed it all and streamed it live on Facebook!

Happily, Michelle is fine with her new shorter – much shorter – hair style, and even happier that her fundraising efforts have realised more than double the amount.

“Yeah, I’m happy with how I look, and we’re up to more than £2400, so I’m really chuffed with that,” she said.

“I was happy to get the £1000 so to double that and more is amazing. Thank you to everyone for their support.”

The idea originally came about at Michelle’s work at New Look in Berwick, when she joked about shaving off her hair.

When manager Glenda and supervisor Amber challenged her to do it for charity, she agreed, as long as £1000 was raised.

Once the target was reached, there was no going back – and her head shave was set for Saturday at 3pm.

Michelle said: “I was totally fine all day until it got to 3pm and I felt abit emotional.

“But when I went outside, a couple friends were there to support me and it was so fun getting it done.

“I was only going to get a ‘grade 2’, but my friend Mary-Jane, who was filming it, said all the viewers wanted to see me with a ‘grade 1’.

“They all liked and commented to get a ‘1’ so I did! Now to let it all grow back again!”

Michelle’s head shave raised money for NHS Charities.

She has so many friends and family working for the NHS – including her sister-in-law Becca – that raising funds for NHS Charities seemed the obvious choice.
