SCHOOLS across the Scottish Borders are calling for any parents of children who were born between March 2008 and February 2009 to register their child for a primary school place for the 2013/14 session.

School enrolment for pupils starting P1 in August 2013 will take place between November 19 and 23. Parents of any child born between March 2008 and February 2009 are invited to visit the headteacher of their local school during enrolment week.

A copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of residence in the area will be required.

Readiness for primary school varies and a child does not have to begin attendance at school until August after his or her fifth birthday.

If a child’s fifth birthday comes between September 1 2013 and February 28 2014, you may apply for a deferred entry for your child and this will be considered.

Applications for early admission to primary school on behalf of children who do not fulfil the normal enrolment requirements should be made to school by January 11 2013.

Parents who intend to make a placing request to attend a primary school other than their local school are advised to visit their local catchment school to reserve a place during enrolment week and inform the headteacher that they will also be making a placing request.

Parents of a child who is to transfer from primary education to secondary education in August 2013 will be sent details of their local secondary school by the primary headteacher.

Parents who wish to vary the normal arrangements and make a placing request are requested to contact the headteacher of the secondary school of their choice by January 11 and inform the headteacher of their primary school of this.
