Eyemouth Variety Group is performing the global smash hit Nunsense on April 23 and 24.
The story begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters.
In dire need of money for burials, they are forced to keep four of the victims in the freezer while they try to raise the funds.
They decide the best way to do so is to put on a variety show so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.”
Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.
Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon.
With more than 5000 productions worldwide, it has been translated into 21 languages and is said to appeal to all ages.
With Sister Act playing in Duns last week, there is definitely a nun theme running throughout the Berwickshire areas.
Gilly Peakman, the musical director said she was thoroughly enjoying rehearsals.
She said: “With an array of different musical styles, from Gregorian chants to Broadway, to country and western. It’s such great fun!
“The age range is really dynamic as well, we have two teenagers and it ranges really from 16 to over 70.
“Some have stronger singing voices but it gives others a chance to improve and show what they’ve got.”
Some of the songs in the show include: ‘So you want to be a nun’, ‘I could have gone to Nashville’ and ‘We’ve got to clean out the freezer’, which in itself sounds hilarious.
Pauline Greive is the director and producer of the show. The cast list includes: Sister Leo- Carly Robertson, Sister Robert Anne- Hannah Ritchie, Sister Amnesia- Andrea Thacker, Sister Hubert- Tilly Blakley, Rev. Mother- Cathy Booker, the chorus- Yvonne Combe, Maureen Gillie, Lilian Smith, Janice Walker, Mavis Eslor and Ethne Turnbull.
