Norovirus strikes again at the BGH

Just days after clearance was given to re-open all wards at Borders General Hospital norovirus returned, forcing a number of them to close once again.

At the time of going to press, one bay in Ward 6 and two bays in both Ward 10 and Ward 12 are closed due to gastro-intestinal symptoms.

All visitors remain strongly discouraged and the general advice is to stay away from the hospital if you or anyone in your family has experienced symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the past 48 hours.

This is especially important for children as they can be badly affected by norovirus, otherwise known as the winter vomiting bug.

While schools are closed this week, parents should ensure children avoid visiting the BGH unless the child is attending an outpatient appointment or Accident & Emergency.
