
The scheme allows retailers to claim back up to 5p a litre and pass the savings on to customers for motorists in 17 areas in England and Scotland, including Northumberland.
Berwickshire MSP John Lamont is disappointed that the Borders has been left out.
He said: “While this scheme is good news for many post codes in Scotland, I am disappointed the Scottish Borders has missed out on this fuel discount.
“It seems unfair that just across the border in Northumberland motorist will be getting cheaper petrol while those in more remote parts of the Borders will miss out.
“If residents agree they should sign my petition at https://www.change.org/p/uk-government-cut-fuel-duty.”
