Nightclub rival bids to scupper Bedrocks plan

A BID by Berwick nightclub Bedrocks to extend its opening hours and drinking times at weekends is being opposed by a rival nightclub boss who says it will lead to a huge increase in disorder.

Cashmere nightclub owner Zafer Saygilier, who secured an extension to his opening times two years ago, believes there will be trouble if clubbers from both venues spill into Golden Square at the same time.

He said: “The grant of this licence would further create problems at the taxi rank as both clubs will be closing at more or less the same time, whereas now the closing time is staggered. I strongly believe there will be a huge impact in law and order problems and increased nuisance and disorder in the area if the additional hours are granted simply based on the fact that the premises offers nothing but cheap alcohol to customers.”

Bedrocks currently opens until 3am on Friday and Saturday nights but only serves alcohol until 2am. Owner Robert Armstrong has submitted an application to Northumberland County Council’s licensing department for an extension allowing the club to serve alcohol until 3am and stay open until 3.20am.
