New NHS Borders medical director post for Andrew

The NHS Borders health board has welcomed Andrew Murray as its new medical director.

He will arrive at NHS Borders from his previous post as associate medical director at NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Andrew has an ear, nose and throat surgeon background, and he has also been a consultant for the last 15 years.

His previous leadership portfolio as associate medical director in Ayrshire and Arran spanned a wide range of services.

He was the lead doctor for Ayr Hospital, leading on service excellence and redesign, clinical governance and medical performance.

Andrew’s medical 
interests extend to general practice, and community and integrated services.

Until most recently Andrew was a member of the South Ayrshire Integrated Joint Board for Health and Social Care.

John Raine, who chairs the Borders health authority, said this week: “Andrew brings a wealth of experience to NHS Borders.

“He has an exemplary record of skilled medical leadership and strongly supports the values we have as a board in putting the needs of patients at the centre of all we do.

“Andrew will have a pivotal role in the development of health and social care services to Borders people in their own communities, as well as ensuring high-quality services in our hospitals.”
