New exhibitors win cups at Chirnside show

The committee of Chirnside and District Flower Show were delighted with the number of entries for their show on Saturday.

They were particularly pleased with the number of first time exhibitors, many winning prizes and trophies.

The residents of Chirnside and district also put on a very good show and turned out on the day to support the event.

M. Mitchell and C. Hall were the industrial judges while A. Manning judged the flowers and vegetables.

Chirnside Gala Queen Ellie Jackson presented the trophies to the following winners:

Football Cup for most points in flowers sections - J. Kenny. Ross Robertson Cup for best pot plant - D. Hutchison. Brown Cup for best exhibit of roses excluding floribunda - Ross Chapman. Richard Craig Trophy for best three sprays of floribunda roses - Anne Robertson. Norrie Bowl for most points in fruit section - Roy Garden. Earsman Trophy for most points in vegetable section - Anne Robertson. Thomson Cup for best entry in vegetables, excluding collection - D. Hutchison.

Patterson Bowl for most points in industrial section - A. Paterson and J. Garden. Swan Cup for best exhibit in industrial section - Nell Craig. Alice Rose Bowl for most points in handicrafts classes - Alison Paterson.

Jock Howie Memorial Cup for most points in onion classes - Anne Robertson. Douglas Cup for most points in vegetable classes (members only) - Anne Robertson, Roy Garden, Bill Burge and D. Buglass. Barber Cup for most points in cut flowers classes (members only) - J. Kenny. Mary Waddell Trophy for most points in industrial classes (members only) - E. Greensill. Tom Waddell Cup for best onion in show - D. Hutchison.

Bill Smith Trophy for best kept and cropped garden - J. Black. Lyall Trophy for most attractive garden - D. Hutchison. Common Good Trophy for best entry in garden containers classes - G. Aitkens.
