Gavinton, Fogo and Polwarth Community Council is seeking new members.
As John Marjoribanks, who recently became chairman, explained: “We currently have several vacancies. In addition, some of our existing members are up for re‑election, although I’m glad to say that most of them would like to continue to serve.
“In order to involve the whole community, we have written to everyone who is eligible to vote, because it’s become clear that many people in the Gavinton, Fogo and Polwarth area don’t realise how far it stretches. Fogo runs from Sisterpath and the Richard Hillary Memorial in the west to the Blackadder Bridge and Harcarse in the east. Polwarth is a triangle between Polwarth Mill, Marchmont Station and the Chatterdeanford Bridge below Ladyflat. And Gavinton’s boundary runs from Langton Edge, following the Wellrig and Langton burns to Nisbet Rhodes, then the main road to Nisbet Hill, with Crunklaw, Ladyflat and Choicelee forming the southern edge.”
Anyone aged 18 or over and on the Electoral Register for the community council area can stand for election. Nomination forms and an explanation of the process is included in the letter which residents should have received by now. More information can be obtained by phoning John Marjoribanks on 01361 882692 or emailing email@example.com . Nominations must be received by Monday, September 17.
