a NEW Area Procurator Fiscal has been appointed to cover Sheriff Courts in the Lothian and Borders area, including Duns Sheriff Court.
John Logue, who has played a major role in the Lockerbie bomber case, was appointed to the post by The Lord Advocate, the Right Honourable Frank Mulholland QC.
Mr Logue, was previously the Area Procurator Fiscal for Tayside, and brings more than 16 years experience as a prosecutor to his new post.
Speaking about the appointment, The Lord Advocate, Frank Mullholland QC said: “I am pleased to announce that John Logue will now head up our prosecution team for Lothian and Borders.
“John has been pivotal in shaping the policy and management agenda of COPFS (Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service) in recent years.
“He also played a crucial role at the Lockerbie trial and continues to work on the case. He has a lengthy track record in operational casework.
“I have every confidence that the Lothian and Borders team will continue to go from strength to strength under his leadership.”
John Logue said: “I am delighted to join the Lothian and Borders prosecution team.
“I look forward to working closely with my new colleagues – ensuring that we can bring to justice those who undermine and harm our communities.”
John Logue graduated with LLB Honours from Aberdeen University in 1993.
He was awarded the Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Aberdeen in 1994.
He joined COPFS in 1994 as a trainee solicitor and was appointed Procurator Fiscal Depute at Stranraer between 1996 and 1998.
He then became part of the Lockerbie Team between 1998 and 2002 and was based at the Scottish Court in the Netherlands for the Lockerbie trial and Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi’s first appeal.
Between 2002 and 2004 he was a member of the change management team at the Crown Office and from 2004 to 2006 he held the position of head of the Business Improvement and Innovation Unit.
From 2006 until 2008, he was the head of Business and Policy Development Division, and in 2008 he was appointed head of the Policy Division in Crown Office.
Since December 2010 he has been Area Procurator Fiscal for Tayside.
