Scottish is urging residents to sign up to its SB Alert messaging system to get winter weather warnings.
The initiative, which is supported by SBC, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and NHS Borders, was launched in October and has issued a total of 20 messages on a range of issues, to nearly 2,000 people.
These have included missing person appeals, thefts of vehicles, drink driving messages and severe weather warnings.
With the Borders having experienced gale force winds, rain and snow over the weekend, and with further winter weather expected this week, SBC’s Emergency Planning Officer Jim Fraser is advising members of the public to sign up at www.sbalert.co.uk.
Mr Fraser said: “We are delighted with the response of the Borders public in signing up to SB Alert, the first of its kind in Scotland. It is proving a useful tool for the Council and our partners to get messages directly to communities affected by crime and safety issues.
