THe work of everyone involved with Duns Swimming Pool was recognised at an awards ceremony in Glasgow last month when the pool finished in the top four of its category.
The swimming pool was placed in the ‘Community Action’ category at the 2012 Scottish Charity Awards ceremony, held at the Old Fruit Market Gallery on June 14 and staff were delighted to find out they’d make the final shortlist of four out of 42 entrants.
The Charity Awards recognise excellence in Scotland’s third sector and celebrate the dedication of people who work relentlessly to support members of our communities and make Scotland a better place to live.
Duns Swimming Pool made the shortlist alongside The Laggan Forest Trust, Windmills Café and Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers, with the latter taking home the trophy.
But rather than being downhearted about just missing out on the top prize, swimming pool staff were thrilled to have picked as one of the four best.
Rosalyn Gresham commented: “We were so pleased to be part of such a recognised ceremony and have gained the position we did. Being surrounded by such large national organisations as Alzheimer Scotland, Down’s Syndrome Scotland and Sue Ryder, to name just a few, was a real achievement.
“When the winner of our category was announced, and a summary of their project given, we knew we could not compete with such a worthwhile project but were more than happy to have been part of such a prestigious event.”
BAV’ Philippa Wetton added: They truly deserve recognition for this and for the commitment and hard work which has led the organisation to where it is today”.
