
At last week’s Berwickshire Area Forum, Dr McDonald indicated that the situation had improved compared to a couple of years ago when Borders residents struggled to find a dentist to register with, and that there were a number of dentists who had moved into the area.
“We developed a public dental service because we were having difficulty attracting dentists to the area,” said Dr McDonald.
“We’re now seeing an increase in independent dentists coming back into the Borders. The Government expects us to encourage the return to independent dentists but we are reluctant to reduce the public dental service because of the situation we got into in the past.”
