There was drama off the coast of East Lothian on Monday after the crew of a fishing boat reported an unexploded mine entangled in their nets.

The crew of the Michelle alerted Forth Coastguard just before 4am and Navy divers from the explosive ordnance disposal team were called in from Faslane.

The object, described as “very rusty with spikes,” was towed by the crew to deep water a mile from the shore at Port Seton, where it was marked with a buoy to await the arrival of divers, just after midday.
