Ian McGregor, 29, also faces charges of assault to severe injury and disfigurement and danger of life.

The charges arise out of a disturbance at a property in Inchmyre in Kelso on Tuesday around 5.45pm.

A 56-year-old woman sustained numerous injuries to her body requiring ongoing treatment at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.

McGregor, of Eschie Court, Kelso, appeared in private at Selkirk Sheriff Court yesterday and made no plea or declaration.

The case was continued for further examination, and McGregor was remanded in custody by Sheriff John Halley.
