An area of north Northumberland has the lowest crime rate in the UK, according to a survey of postcode areas commissioned by Royal Mail.

Homes with the postcode TD12, around Coldstream and Cornhill, had the lowest number of reported crimes per 1,000 of the population.

The research was carried out by the Centre for Economic and Business Research to celebrate 40 years since the postcode was introduced.

It also found that NE69 (around Bamburgh) had one of the highest average ages, at just over 53.
